Ich bin fest davon ausgegangen, dass sich nur sehr langsam LeserInnen finden würden, die sich für meine Gedanken unterwegs interessieren. Ich bin von Natur aus eher vom Typ Eigenbrötler, der so sein Ding macht und das Reisen und die Fotografie liebt. Im Internet war ich bisher nicht sonderlich präsent und bin daher von eurem Interesse an meiner Reise total überrascht. Dass sich bereits vor meinem Reisebeginn weit über 100 von euch für den Newsletter angemeldet haben, hätte ich mir beim besten Willen nicht träumen lassen. Das geht direkt ins Herz. Es freut mich riesig, dass ihr mich alle ein wenig bei der Reise begleiten möchtet. An dieser Stelle vielen herzlichen Dank an euch alle.\n\nSeit Beginn meiner Panamericana-Reise, die am 21.05.2026 in Halifax, Kanada, begonnen hat, mache ich mir Gedanken darüber, wie ich den ersten „Brief von unterwegs\" am besten beginne und worüber ich schreiben möchte. Diese Entscheidung wurde mir vergangenes Wochenende leider auf unschöne Art und Weise abgenommen. Nach den ersten rund 2.500 km durch Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island und Québec City bin ich nun in Montreal gestrandet. **Etwas Unglaubliches ist passiert.**\n\nIn Montreal hatte ich „Felice\", meinen umgebauten Mercedes-Feuerwehr-Oldtimer, in einem ruhigen und sicheren Park weit ausserhalb der Innenstadt abgestellt, um mir die Stadt anzusehen. Als ich abends wieder zum Fahrzeug kam, war der ganze Park von einer Armee von Polizeiautos abgesperrt. Ich durfte nicht zu meinem Fahrzeug, weil es sich um einen Tatort handelte. Erst am nächsten Morgen habe ich über Anwohner erfahren, was passiert ist. Es gab wohl eine [Verfolgungsjagd und eine Schiesserei](https://montreal.citynews.ca/2026/06/14/one-arrest-gunshots-angrignon-park-party/) zwischen der Polizei und einem Fluchtauto. Videos von der Szene kursieren in Social Media. Das Fluchtfahrzeug ist dabei meinem geparkten Camper voll in die Seite gefahren.\n\nDer Schaden ist gross und wird mich wohl mehrere Tausend Euro kosten. Neben einer gebrochenen Stossstange und kleineren Lackschäden hat es vor allem die Lenkung erwischt. Wichtige Teile davon sind verbogen und müssen ersetzt werden. Teile, die eine Werkstatt hier und ich seit einer Woche aufzutreiben versuchen. Das ist hier aber eigentlich unmöglich. Selbst in Europa ist die Ersatzteilsuche bisher sehr bescheiden. Ich sitze hier also erst einmal fest und stehe in einem grauen Industriegebiet. Irgendwann werde ich sicher über diese Geschichte lachen, aber gerade ist das alles ziemlich niederschmetternd.\n\nDennoch möchte ich mich beim ersten „Brief von unterwegs\" nicht auf das Negative fokussieren. Everything happens for a reason. Ich bin grundsätzlich ein positiv denkender Mensch und möchte die Standzeit jetzt einfach am sinnvollsten nutzen. Ich würde euch gern so gut es geht in meine Reise einbinden, statt einfach nur passiven Frontal-Unterricht zu geben. Ausserdem würde ich gern erfahren, wer ihr alle seid, wovon ihr gerade träumt und ob ihr vielleicht sogar schon an der Verwirklichung eurer Träume arbeitet.\n\nWer zwischen den Briefen mehr sehen mag: Auf meiner Webseite habe ich eine Art [Panamericana-Livestream](https://andyanalog.com/panamericana/) eingebaut. I was firmly convinced that readers interested in my thoughts from the road would only trickle in very slowly. By nature I'm more of a loner type who does his own thing and loves travel and photography. Up to now I haven't had much of a presence on the internet, and so your interest in my journey has taken me completely by surprise. That well over 100 of you signed up for the newsletter even before my trip began is something I never would have dared to dream of. That goes straight to the heart. It makes me incredibly happy that you all want to accompany me a little on this journey. A heartfelt thank you to all of you.\n\nEver since the start of my Panamericana trip, which began on May 21, 2026, in Halifax, Canada, I've been wondering how to best open this first \"letter from the road\" and what to write about. Last weekend that decision was unfortunately taken out of my hands in an unpleasant way. After the first roughly 2,500 km through Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Québec City, I've now ended up stranded in Montreal. **Something unbelievable has happened.**\n\nIn Montreal I had parked \"Felice,\" my converted vintage Mercedes fire truck, in a quiet, safe park well outside the city center so I could go see the city. When I came back to the vehicle in the evening, the whole park was cordoned off by an army of police cars. I wasn't allowed to get to my vehicle because it was a crime scene. It wasn't until the next morning that I learned from locals what had happened. There had apparently been a [chase and a shootout](https://montreal.citynews.ca/2026/06/14/one-arrest-gunshots-angrignon-park-party/) between the police and a fleeing car. Videos of the scene are circulating on social media. The fleeing vehicle slammed full-force into the side of my parked camper.\n\nThe damage is severe and is going to cost me several thousand euros. Besides a broken bumper and minor paint damage, the steering took the brunt of it. Crucial parts of it are bent and have to be replaced. Parts that a garage here and I have been trying to track down for a week now. But that's essentially impossible here. Even in Europe the search for spare parts has been pretty dismal so far. So for the time being I'm stuck, parked in a grey industrial area. At some point I'll surely be able to laugh about this story, but right now it's all pretty crushing.\n\nEven so, I don't want to focus on the negative in this first \"letter from the road.\" Everything happens for a reason. I'm fundamentally a positive thinker and want to use this downtime in the most meaningful way I can. I'd love to involve you in my journey as much as possible, rather than just delivering passive lectures from the front of the classroom.
